BMW Motorrad Launches GS Survival Tool

BMW Motorrad understands the challenges that motorcycle adventurers face. There are numerous technical failures that can happen at any time in motorcycle adventures. Especially for those who go on ling rides, every slip-out or technical failure matters because it can happen in a deserted road where there is no phone signal or just too far from the nearest place where they can seek help. Moreover, this means that a long-planned trip is over. As a responsible bike maker, it is indeed very important to provide all possible resources for the motorcyclist and that’s what BMW is doing.

With BMW GS riders in mind, BMW Motorrad teamed up experienced GS motorcycle riders and took a lot of time to develop a tool especially for the BMW GS models R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure. The tool allows the rider to get complex repairs needed, and even provide a copy of spare parts as necessary.

The inspiration in developing this device came from the 20th century Bavarian mechanics. Back in the day, they had a tool called axe-hammer pliers. The BMW GS Survival Tool works just like that. It can function as a saw, screwdriver, pliers, hammer, and an axe.

During the development process, it has been tested and perfected trough many endurance tests. BMW engineers made sure that it will function as a solution to the needs of most motorcycle riders in the challenges that they face on the road. The final test of the product was held in the 2016 International GS Trophy Southeast Asia last February and it proved to be very useful. It was used to open cans, bottles, and even hammering the pegs of a tent. Though there was no need for creating spare part in that event, the tool made from high-quality chrome molybdenum steel proved to be very useful.
