BMW Plans to Sell 25,000 X3s in 2011 trough Custom-Orders

InsideLine reports that BMW is planning to sell 25,000 X3 units in 2011. All of these will be manufactured at the Spartanburg plant. Refreshed models will become available to the market before the year ends.

In 2008, BMW sold 17,622 X3 units in the U.S. alone, while this year, only 3,439 units have been sold there. BMW wants to regain the large sales for the X3 again so they have been convincing customers to custom order their X3 since May of this year. BMW offers as short as one week delivery time when custom ordering.

BMW says that there are a lot of things a customer can personalize in his vehicle if it is customer ordered, rather than buying one from a dealership. In a sense, it is maximizing your capability to make the car really your own.

Custom ordering is common in Europe. More than half of all BMW units sold there have been custom-ordered.  These custom units were delivered directly to the customer, or delivered to a local dealership for an extra charge.

The 2011 BMW X3 price has yet to be announced yet.
