BMW relies on China sales as Germany stalls

BMW is facing the fact that luxury car sales in Germany are not strong. Thus, they are shifting  focus on China and is relying on the Chinese market sales to reach their goals.

BMW increased their deliveries to China by 82% amounting to 13,852 units. This is part of the reason why the BMW sales in July increased by 4%.

The strong demand for luxury cars in China is a result of the increasing number of wealthy Chinese who want to switch to luxury vehicles like the 3 Series, 5 Series, and 7 Series. 11% of BMW’s sales are from China.

Competition in this area is very limited — while the number of Chinese who are willing to spend money to buy quality luxury cars are significant. According to J.D. Power & Associates’ research, the sale of luxury vehicles in China will double the industry pace of 20% to 530,000 in 2010 and is estimated to reach 1.1 million by 2015.
