BMW removes Some Diesel Models from the UK Market

BMW and other brands that produce diesel models will have to face a new challenge. This is because the UK government states its plan to ban the selling of internal combustion engines by 2030. Its previous declaration was 2035, thus making a bold decision in this new one. Despite this decision, it’s evident that transformed perspectives are happening due to the increasing marketability of electrified cars. For this reason, some car manufacturers, including BMW, need to adapt to these changes. We are seeing a possible pulling off of the market of the company’s diesel models.

This week, BMW announced that some of its models will not be on sale with a diesel mill anymore. The company has some feasible reasons for this decision aside from its apparent preparation for what’s coming ahead. Accordingly, its 2 Series Convertible and Coupe models will only be purchasable with petrol engines starting this month. Since the latest 2 Series models are already heading to the market, the sales of BMW would not be greatly affected. The company also knows that petrol engines are highly preferred than their diesel models.

BMW needs to invest largely in new technology so that it can keep its diesel 2 Series on the market. This will also make it fit with the Euro 6d emissions standard. However, this is not going to be a worthwhile investment for the company. With the extremely expensive process, the new 2 Series will also land the market by next year.

With the recent decision of the UK authorities, MINI Countryman is also making the same move for its models. The Countryman already gains a Euro 6d-compliant diesel engine. However, the brand’s customers are just not that interested even though it gains clean mill.
