BMW Shortens Christmas Break due to Production Demand

According to a Bloomberg report, BMW will shorten their factory Christmas break due to the high demand for new models in the market.

BMW plants in Dingolfing and Leipzig, Germany is currently producing the new 5 Series, which is expected to perform well in the market. Being the top selling Sports Utility Vehicle in Europe, the BMW X1 produced in these German plants might also exceed sales expectations. Thus, BMW will try their best to keep the production on going by keeping the plants open over the holidays. This is a huge sign of recovery. Last year, BMW had to close the plants for three weeks because of low demand for luxury vehicles in the global market.

Being the largest BMW plant, Dingolfing also produces the 6 and 7 Series models. The Leipzig plant on the other hand manufactures the 1 Series Hatchback.

Michael Rebstock, a spokesman for BMW, said:

Production capacity is the limiting factor at the moment. We are producing as much as we can and are happy for every additional shift we can get. Some BMW factories will still stop production around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to carry out necessary maintenance and to restock supplies. This year we’re keeping the breaks as short as possible, while last year we had them as long as possible.

Continued sales increase for BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce in October proves that there is indeed a very high demand for BMW vehicles.
