BMW shows more parts made of lightweight materials

Shown to select members of the press at Miramas, France, are new lightweight parts that could be fitted to future cars in order to shed some weight. The 5 Series GT prototype was fitted with a carbon fiber roof like the ones on new M3 and M4 sportscars. This indicates that future BMW cars are headed to that direction.

The hatchback is also completely made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and shows that complex shapes are attainable with these lightweight materials.The spoiler lip and wheels are also made from a carbon fiber and aluminum composite.
