BMW to hire 8000 employees this year

BMW is looking to grow its workforce this year, according to Milagros Caiña-Andree, BMW Board Member responsible for personnel. The company will be adding 8,000 people globally in 2015 and more than 5,000 of them in Germany. “Due to the high demand, we need both in our German plants, as well as in the international production network more skilled workers,” said Caiña-Andree .

BMW is particularly seeking specialists in fuel-efficient or alternative propulsion technologies, as well as lightweight materials. Another class of employees highly sought by BMW is software developers.

“In addition to the classical engineers, we are looking especially for IT professionals and software developers,” says Caiña-Andree. To operate the complexity of the new machines, the software has become an important component of BMW’s production of cars. “That’s why it is important for us to develop software itself,” added the personnel chief.

Gender equality plays an important role at BMW and Caiña-Andree wants increase the number of female employees. “We want to get significantly more women in the company,” said Board member. “As a highly technical company, that is not easy. But the number of women who opt for a career in technology continues to grow. “

BMW also says that the retention levels are high, with more new hires coming in than departing.

Overall, BMW employs more than 110,000 people.
