BMW to Use Touch Sensitive Smart Fabric In Future Models

A report by New Scientist says that BMW is planning to use a kind of touchscreen fabric in their future models. Researchers at the Polytechnic School in Montreal have developed a flexible polymer-based fiber with electrical properties that can be woven into existing fabrics. BMW can use this creativity amongst their vehicles to product a minimalist yet boundless interior.

The electrical properties change depending on where the fabric is touched, and finger touches or slides on different areas can be programmed to control air-conditioning or change the volume of the stereo. The same kind of touch sensitive technology has already been seen in the dashboard of the Vision ConnectedDrive Concept at the 2011 Geneva auto show.
