BMW wants the 5 Series to regain No. 1 spot

BMW wants the 5 Series to become the top-selling meduim sized luxury car in Europe again. Last year, the 5 Series was left behind by the new Mercedes-Benz E class as it provided more variants and was offered around 680 euros less than the price of the 5 Series.

Overall, the Mercedes-Benz E class sold 87,281 units in Europe, while the BMW 5 Series sold 77,318 units only.

Now, BMW intends to regain the top spot through the sixth generation 5 Series released last March. This refreshed version offers a new front double-wishbone chassis which improves stability, 15% more fuel economy, brake energy regeneration, 8-speed transmission from ZF, electric power steering, new powerplants, and other luxury features.

The BMW group is confident that the 5 Series, combined with the 7 Series sedan sales will compose 50% of BMW’s profits worldwide.
