BMW Will Compete With Porsche, Audi, and Cadillac in LMDh Class 2

The German carmaker recently unveiled its most-awaited LMDh racer, the BMW M Hybrid V8. This LMDh prototype race car will compete with other luxury sports car brands. Fans and customers are in for a treat with this news.

BMW will compete with Porsche, Toyota, Audi, and even Cadillac. These luxury brands will provide exceptional competition for BMW on track. This means more thrilling racing at the upcoming IMSA. Also, these premium brands will provide competition for BMW on the road.

BMW Will Compete With Porsche, Audi, and Cadillac in LMDh Class 2

Carmakers like BMW are entering the LMDh class of endurance racing with a purpose. Of course, technology development is their main reason for the LMDh class. Additionally, there are fewer restrictions and regulations in LMDh. For example, Formula 1, as an established class has more restrictions to follow.

Therefore, if brands wanted to develop battery, electric, and hybrid tech for racing, LMDh is the answer. Also, brands usually translate racing cars to road cars as well. This racing class provides better innovative freedom compared with others.

Even Formula E had lesser innovative freedom. BMW and Audi dropping out of this electric class prove this to be true. Both premium brands felt that LMDh gives more freedom for technology development.

BMW M Hybrid V8 Is Finally Here

Of course, these brands do not have complete control of the race. All teams should use chassis and battery tech from one of four manufacturers. BMW and Cadillac are partnered with Dallara. Nevertheless, terms for using tech, tuning, and studying the car are less strict than in other motorsport classes.

Motorsport provides a guide for automotive tech for the road. BMW will only improve at electrified technologies through its new LMDh racer. And the same is true for other brands.
