BMW will hire 2,600 additional employees by 2011

BMW plans to increase their sales by 10% this year and to develop sustainable technology for future mobility. In order to make this possible, BMW will hire 2,600 additional employees by 2011 in the areas of research, development, purchasing and sales.

According to BMW Spokesman Michael Rebstock, these additional employees will add expertise in electric vehicles, hybrid powertrains and cleaner combustion engines to develop models with lower carbon-dioxide emissions to meet environmental regulators’ demands for cleaner-running cars.

From 2007 to 2009, CEO Norbert Reithofer reduced their workforce by 11,000 to just 96,230 worldwide as part of cost-cutting measures in difficult economic times. As the automobile market recovers, BMW plans to expand growth to 2 million deliveries by 2020.
