BMW will launch Speed Limit technology in Australia this year

BMW confirmed that their Speed Limit information, a revolutionary new driver assistance system, will be making its debit in Australia this year. This technology lets the driver know the speed limit at all times by using a camera placed close to the interior mirror. This camera automatically monitors the road signs including the speed limits. What the camera sees is automatically compared to the data saved in the BMW navigation system.

So the speed limit taken by the camera is given to the driver. If for example, the speed limit changes because of road work, the camera used it’s latest speed limit road sign captures and relays it to the driver through the Head-Up Display in the windscreen of the car. Thus, the speed limit stored the the memory of the BMW navigation system is always updated.

This technology contributes to the safety of the driver and lessens the risk of going beyond speed limits.

BMW Australia Managing Director Stavros Yallouridis says that the release of the Speed Limit technology is in line with BMW’s reputation of pioneering driver assistance systems and providing safe ultimate driving machines. This is the first time a technology like this will be used in Australia. And will debut on the BMW 760Li, 750Li and 750i before 2010 ends.

The Speed Limit technology will also be offered as an option for the remaining 7 Series fleet, the 5 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series Sedan and 5 Series Touring for 700 Australian Dollars.
