BMW will sell two rare cars from their museum reserve collection

BMW agreed to sell two cars from their museum reserve collection at the Bonhams inaugural Collectors’ Motor Cars auction which will be held at the Royal Mirage Hotel, Dubai this October 2010. This is definitely the first time that BMW will sell cars from the official factory collection.

One of the cars that will go on sale is a white BMW 3.0 CSL with motorsport stripes. These cars made history by being the first cars developed under BMW Motorsport Division and first to use the official colors of BMW Motorsport as we know them today. These cars are termed “Batmobiles”, because of the large rear wing, traditional rear spoiler, and front fender spats. When the Batmobiles ended its production lifespan by December 1975, 167 units have been produced.

The other car that will be auctioned is a 1979 white BMW M1. The mileage of this car is very low, and is in top condition. This car is considered one of the finest vehicles that BMW has ever made. It was the only mid-engined vehicle that BMW mass produced. It was only produced from 1978 to 1981 as a special sports car racing model of the Motorsport division. A total of 456 units were produced.
