Reuters UK reported that BMW dealerships will separate MINI showrooms in Germany to better segregate sales space between BMW and MINI products. As of the moment, there are BMW dealerships in Germany that also sell MINI vehicles at their showrooms, but according to BMW Germany sales chief Karsten Engel, this will be stopped soon. They are planning on greatly differentiating between the two car brands.

Another reason why there is a need to separate BMW and MINI showrooms is BMW’s future plans of introducing their first front-wheel drive vehicle. BMW plans to introduce a Gran Turismo variant of the 1 Series. The 1 Series Gran Turismo, also known internally as Compact Activity Tourer, will be the first to make use of the new platform. The first BMW front-wheel drive model will be launched in 2013.

The next generation MINI will also make use of the same platform, but will cater to a different demographic. So differentiation is much needed at this point.
