Just a few weeks away from the market debut of the new BMW X4, rumors that BMW X4 M model following suit arises. BMW has said before that an X4 M model is not likely, but in an interview with President of BMW’s M Division, Dr Friedrich Nitschke, for Drive Australia, he gave some hints that the X4 M is being considered.
“At the moment we are developing the new X5 M and X6 M, and we will launch these next year,†he told Drive at this week’s international launch of the new M3 sedan and M4 coupe.
“I think in parallel to bring an X4 M version we are fixed in our capacity of engineering resources and therefore at the moment it is difficult for us to develop a lot of real M cars.â€
Senior engineers within the M division have also revealed to Drive that it is unlikely the X4 M will adopt the M3/M4’s all-new twin-turbo in-line six cylinder, but that it will likely use of a version of the high-power single-turbo six currently under development for the upcoming M2.
BMW M might add an X7 M to the flagship X7 SUV recently announced, even before the X4 M arrives.
