Bmw is going to expand the eco-friendly “efficient dynamics” technology to its Z4 roadster and coupe. The technology is already used by the Bavarian automaker by its 1-series, 3-series and 5-series and is aiming to reduce emissions and to save fuel without compromising the agility of the vehicle.
The eco-friendly technology used is based on the regenerative brakes and the start/stop system but the Z4 also uses a new and more efficient rear axle transmission. According to Autocar “This ‘friction optimised’ rear axle lowers CO2 outputs and increases economy for all six-cylinder Z4s except the Z4M.”
The engines don’t have huge changes but represent a step further and in this way are still signifiant. For example the 2.0 litre four cylinder engine drops the CO2 emission from 181 to 176 g/km. The difference is not big but is signifiant. Bmw will apply these changes to all Z4s built from 1st of September 2007.
