CarBahn-tuned BMW M8 Coupe: Pumps out 824 HP

If you’re an automotive fan, you know that Steve Dinan is one of the most admired and sought-after BMW tuners. And while Dinan recently started working on brands like Audi, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz, they still got that Bavarian touch in them. So, even if Steve Dinan sold his tuning company, we can see more of his works in this new company. The CarBahn Autowerks is a new tuning company he started, and one of the latest projects they’re working on is the BMW M8 Competition Coupe. In this review by CNET, we’ll get to see a glimpse of what this monstrous car is like in action.

CarBahn-tuned BMW M8 Coupe: Pumps out 824 HP

Just to get it out there – the standard M8 Competition has 617 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of three seconds flat. As if these standard engine specs are not enough, the CarBahn Autowerks tuned this model to produce 824 horsepower and 779 lb-ft of torque. This is from 93 octane gas. It even increases up to 882 horsepower and 795 lb-ft once 100 octane pumps in. The engine tweaks include swapping out the heat exchangers and fitting new air filters. This incredibly comprehensive tune focuses on engine reliability every bit as much as it does power.

Such tuning is what made Dinan today – taking high-performance cars to a better ride and handling than ever before. Dinan isn’t a fan of compromising comfort with power when it comes to overall performance, and that’s what he exactly did with the M8.

Instead of focusing too much on power, he kept BMW’s electronically adjustable shocks but fitted them with new, lowered coilovers. This is done, so the M8 gets a lowered ride height and reduced body roll, maintaining comfort throughout. So, what was CNET Roadshow’s verdict? Well, just as expected. Dinan achieved to make the CarBahn BMW M8 easy to drive. It’s also able to remain flat and composed through corners.
