BMW Motorrad Motorsport Opens With Sensational Win, Plus French FSBK and FR EU Poduims

It was an exciting week in France last week as Le Mans hosted the 2016 French Superbike Championship (FSBK) and the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU). Despite the crazy weather and lots of rain, the BMW S 1000 RRs did good for both races of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport.

To start off, the BMW S 1000 RR took a podium finish at the The French Superbike Championship’s (FSBK) 2016 season. It was Kenny Foray (FR), the 31-year-old former Endurance World Champion and new addition to the BMW Motorrad team, who came in an impressive second place in race two held on Sunday despite having to retire when his front tyre was broken by the debris on the track. The fastest lap of this race was also set by him. Foray will also be competing in the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) under the Penz13.com BMW Motorrad Team.

There were also others who finished strong races for BMW Motorrad. Long-term member of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport community Nicolas Pouhair (FR) is still on this season and completed both races in 14th and 16th. Cyprien Schmidt (FR) took 16th and 15th on his BMW S 1000 RR. Maxime Bonnot (FR) also finished at 30th and 32nd place in his debut season’s first two races.

Thanks to fifty-eight-year-old Hernani Teixeira (FR), the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU) became very exciting as he won the first race on Saturday, leading 22 seconds against his rival despite the bad weather.

There were seven BMW racers who made it to the top ten: Teixeira (1st), Julien Brun (FR / 4th) Richard Mathivet (FR / 5th), Benjamin Colliaux (FR / 6th), Michel Amalric (FR / 7th), Madjid Idres (FR / 9th) and Bertrand Boyer (FR / 10th).

In race two, Colliaux placed second and David Bouvier (FR) third. Three other BMW S 1000 RR’s took wins in positions four to six: Boyer, Manu Dagault (FR) and Amalric. Teixeira took the eighth place in race two.

The next round of the series will happen in Nogaro on the 23rd/24th day of April.
