M for Milestone – 30 years Celebration for the BMW ‘M’

The BMW ‘M’ division started off as a subsidiary of the BMW parent company. It surely amazed the public with its sleek designs, especially with the introduction of the M1 Coupe. The BMW M1 was truly a remarkable car and with just 445 cars of this type built, it has truly been a feat with respect to the success (the sales of course). The company is even thinking of designing a car in order to pay homage to the BMW M1 for its 30 year anniversary. That’s not all that the company has to cheer about, BMW has actually delivered its best by selling its 300,000th M division car.

The company has sold a lot of M division cars over the years and the buyers just don’t seem to get enough of it. For the year 2008 itself, the M division was responsible for 1% of the overall company’s car sales. After BMW released the M1 car in the market, it has constantly being concentrating on consolidating the technology of sports cars with the ordinary design cars. Considering the history of this company, it wasn’t until the company manufactured the E30 M3 that the sales began to pick up. About 17000 of these cars were sold in the market and this is when the M division started getting noticed.

Since then, the M division has been responsible for sky-rocketing the BMW’s sales more than ever. In its first decade itself, more than 35000 M division cars were sold and in order to set a benchmark for other automobile companies, in 2008 itself, more than 4000 M3 cars were sold. The best part is that, as of today, there are more M division cars sold in the United States than in any other country. With the M3 now in the M division stables, there are about nine M cars around.

So 30 years is a really big deal for any subsidiary to stick around so long. With up-to-the-mark engineering, the M car can see a lot more years ahead of it.
