The rumors of a BMW Project i program called the MINI-i has started over a year ago when a webcam photo of the next generation Mini city vehicles leaked on the internet. Autoexpress now revives these rumors as they publish a story about the MINI-i in a John Cooper Works version.
According to Autoexpress, this vehicle will be over three meters long and a four seater — but there is no name for it yet. It will be using the 1.5 liter 3 cylinder engine that the BMW Motorrad Division has developed for the BMW and MINI fleet. This will be capable of 150 horsepower, 50mpg, and under 110g/km of carbon emissions. Start-stop technology, brake energy regeneration and an aerodynamic design will also be used.
This is in line with the rumors that a smaller Mini is on the works, and soon will make it to production. AutoExpress expects this rumored MINI-i to be launched in 2012 and sold at 16, 000 British pounds.
