Scissors Doors – The New Equipment Option from MINI

MINI Scissors Doors

The newest feature on the beautiful British MINI models will allow the drivers to park even easier!

What’s it all about?

MINI introduces “Scissors Doors”, the new option that pushes it one step closer to the future.

The option will only be available for MINI 3-door, MINI Paceman, and MINI Convertible in the beginning, expanding to MINI 5-door, 6-door MINI Clubman, and MINI Countryman.

The “Scissors Doors” are based on an enhanced body concept, with wing doors that open vertically, providing the perfect solution to the customers who have problems with parking space.

The “clever space use” development concept uses wing doors that activate electrohydraulically. The required parking space width is therefore decreased by almost 30%. No matter how tight the parking space is, the drivers and passengers will be able to comfortably get in and out of the vehicle – a feature that truly adds a dose of convenience.

BMW’s engineers worked hard in providing numerous comfort features to the customers. Dalf Rietmann, the Head of Special Equipment Management in MINI, stated that “the doors can be opened and closed as standard via remote control. In conjunction with Comfort Access, which is subject to an additional charge, the MINI can be opened and closed by means of a button on the door handle without having to use the remote control. It is sufficient for the ignition key to be in the user’s trouser pocket, for example. In the future, the idea is to enable opening and closing of the car via smartphone using the MINI Excitement App.” (source: press.bmwgroup.com)
