It is rare for the media to test drive a BMW before it is unveiled, but some lucky European automotive journalists were lucky enough to be given this opportunity. The New BMW X3 was still camouflaged and its dashboard was covered. This was mainly focused on the performance of the vehicle.
Here are a few things that the journalists found out. The new X3 will be available in a 184 horsepower diesel engine and a 306 horsepower 3.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine, both with an all-wheel-drive system. The range of engines will gradually increase after the vehicle is released.
The engines will have a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. If you are interested in matting the cylinders to manual six-speed transmissions, you can do it with only four cylinders. The Start-Stop technology of EfficientDynamics is also embedded in this vehicle. The chassis has Normal, Sport and Sport + functions.
The interior is largely similar to the X5 SAV. And with the camouflage, it is difficult to spot where it will be different.
It uses the F25 platform and has many components from the 3 Series and 5 Series. The compact SAV is now larger at 8 cm long, 3 cm wide and 1.2 cm tall. The wheelbase is also larger at 9 cm. The trunk volume and the leg space between the seats have also increased.  For safety purposes, the distance between the hood and the engine has also increased.
Overall, there is precision and comfort in driving the new 2011 BMW X3 as it is approximately 25 kilograms lighter than the old version. It doesn’t compromise safety and stability with comfort.
