Automobile Magazine gives us new information about the next generation BMW X5 and X6 Sports Activity Vehicles. Both of these future vehicles will be based on “X for all”. This is a set of new components that BMW have developed for X vehicles. For the X5 and X6, “X for all†means new axles derived from the F10 5 Series sedan. By doing this, BMW will successfully save 330-pounds of weight from the vehicles.
The same publication reports that BMW will also offer optional active steering, a self-leveling air suspension and Adaptive Drive, which employs adjustable anti-roll bars. Lane departure warning, night vision, park assist, active cruise control and traffic sign recognition will also be incorporated in the vehicles.
The interior of the vehicles will be completely redesigned. It will mostly resemble the BMW 5 Series GT and the focus will be on using high-quality materials and driver orientation.
For the exterior of the X5, the vehicles will feature a more imposing kidney grille, headlights with LED treatment, redesigned taillights, and an overall improved masculine look. For the X6, BMW will largely improve the practicality. Wider doors and more headroom is expected.
Under the hood, the entry-level X5 and X6s will be equipped with 2.0 liter diesels developing 245 hp and 260 lb-ft, and a 2.0 liter gasoline unit – 245bhp and 260 lb-ft.
The new F15 BMW X5 will debut in 2014, and the F16 X6 will debut in 2015.
