The next generation BMW 3 Series will be launched in 2012. It will be built on a new modular platform, which will go back to dynamic lines that produces a slimmer, toned, and muscular look, with short rear overhangs and squat proportions. We can say that BMW is returning to the basics of design.
The 2012 BMW 3 Series Sedan has a longer wheelbase, at least 1.5″ longer than its predecessor. It’s nose will be similar top the E89 Z4’s front-end. The L-shape designed tail lights will be maintained.
It is expected to be available in a wide range of powerplants which include a 6-cylinder engine, 4-cylinder engines and possibly a 3-cylinder engine variant. Here is a rendering of the 2012 BMW 3 Series Sedan, two years before its unveiling:
