Next Monday will mark the debut of the BMW i3: BMW’s first electric vehicle and one of the automaker’s biggest moves in its history. The debut will happen simultaneously in New York City, London and Beijing. The i3 Concept Coupe was already revealed last year and the production version is almost identical to that.It still has the suicide-style rear doors, now made out of CFRP instead of glass, and the high-tech interior design.
The BMW i3’s 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque hybrid-synchronous electric motor, developed and produced by BMW, is electrified by a 22-kWh lithium-ion battery, good for 80-100 miles of emission-free driving. Designed from the ground up to be an electric car, the BMW i3 uses the Industry’s first mass produced carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell mounted on an aluminum chassis.
BMW announced the base price of 34,950 Euros for the BMW i3 in Germany. But before its debut, leaked photos of the BMW i3 emerge on the interwebs.
