PSA is pushing for closer carbon fiber ties with BMW

German business newspaper Handelsblatt reports that PSA/Peugeot-Citroen is pushing to expand its cooperation with BMW in the carbon fiber.

PSA CEO Philippe Varin said: “we are looking for technical solutions which can be put to use both at premium producers and at generalists.”

Carbon fiber technology is now common in the BMW cars because of its strength and weight. It proves to be a much better choice that using steel, which significantly adds more weight to the vehicle. However, the carbon fiber technology is still relatively expensive.

Handelsblatt reports that this cooperation between PGA and BMW will result to a carbon fiber plant in the U.S. PSA can also take supplies of carbon fiber in future from the BMW/SGL Carbon plant.
