Rendering of the Upcoming BMW 1 Series by Auto Bild

From the German Auto Bild magazine, we get a new rendering of the future BMW 1 Series Sedan. The codename for this model is F52, and it will be similar to the existing Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz CLA. One of the mutual features of these coupes is the front-wheel-based drive.

As we can see on the rendering, the design is inspired by the current 3 and 4 Series, and there is some influence from the BMW Concept Compact Sedan. The vehicle’s headlights are connected to the kidney grille, and the lower front fascia is inspired by the BMW M2.

Even though there are various existing cars that influenced the design, the F52 won’t look exactly like something that already exists. As for the size, the engineers are aiming to get it to the same proportions as the E46 3 Series, filling the missing gap between the 1 Series Hatch and the F30 3 Series Sedan.

Different options will be available in terms of engine and gearbox. The customers will be able to choose between 3 or 4 cylinder inline direct injection petrol and common-rail diesel unit, and also between 6-speed manual gearbox and 8-speed Steptronic gearbox.

The expected revealing date is somewhere in 2017.
