Rumor: The BMW Megacity Vehicle will be produced in China

According to Wattgehtab, a German magazine, there is a big possibility that the upcoming Megacity vehicle will be built in China. Plans are still ongoing about the production plans in China, after its official launch in 2013.

Head of BMW China Christoph Stark said in an interview for News Bejiing that the launch of the Megacity Vehicle in 2013 will be giving the Chinese market a big opportunity to observe the local suppliers and resources needed to built the car solely on Chinese soil. The zero-emission Megacity vehicles are perfect for global metropolitan and high populated regions such as China.

As of the moment, BMW is preparing the Leipzig plant in Germany for mass production of electric cars. They plan to invest 400 million euros in 2013 for the plant’s expansion. Approximately 800 new jobs will also be created. In 2011, the Leipzig plant will start producing the ActiveE vehicle which is based on the BMW 1 Series Coupe.
