The first announcement of the new BMW plant in the U.S., in Spartanburg, SC, has been made on June 23, 1992. 25 years later, it is the largest BMW plant in the world when it comes to the number of units made every year.
The anniversary was marked with a ceremony as a brand-new BMW X3 came out of the production line. Since the first generation of the X3 was launched 14 years ago, more than 1.5 million units were produced and delivered to the owners. The official market launch of the new X3 is scheduled for November this year.
Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, spoke at the ceremony:
The BMW Group’s success story in the US would not have been possible without the open arms and warm hearts of the people and elected officials in the great state of South Carolina and the surrounding region. Our relationship with South Carolina has been built upon decades of professionalism, mutual trust and respect – and goes far beyond just building great cars.
