The media continue to have speculations about a BMW hybrid super car. AutoZeitung, a German based magazine, reports that this future hybrid super car will produce around 600 hp and will launch in 2013. No wonder horsepower is that high, sources say that this vehicle will be developed by the BMW M Division based on the Vision EfficientDynamics concept. The engine will be assisted by electric motors and powered by the plug-in lithium-ion technology enough to drive up to 50 kilometers on electric power alone.
The most interesting speculation is that this future hybrid super car could be using a 5.0 liter V10 from the M5 E60, matted to a 7-speed SMG. But if we look at BMW’s latest investment in EfficientDynamics which focuses on fuel efficiency and driving dynamics, this report is far from being a reality.
If anything comes close, it will most likely be that the future hybrid super car will be powered by a small three or four-cylinder engine helped by electric motors.
AutoZeitung also reports that this car will have an aluminum drivetrain, lots of carbon fiber and will weigh approximately 1,500 kilograms. If it will indeed use the V10 engine, then rumors of reaching 100 km/h in only 3.8 seconds and fuel consumption of 3.5.-3.8 liters/100 km will not be possible.
