The upcoming BMW i8 was spotted while parked at a charging station in Germany where the right-hand drive configuration and cockpit with multiple displays that provide the driver and passengers with relevant information are first seen.
A display in the center is in charge of the infotainment functions. Another display is behind the steering wheel to replace the traditional instrument cluster. A new Head-Up Display will also be available to help the driver. Weighing just 1450 kilograms, thanks to carbon fiber, the BMW i8 is a hybrid sportscar that performs like M cars. Under the hood, it has a 170 horsepower electric motor that drives the front-wheels, paired with a 1.5 liter 3-cylidner turbocharged petrol engine delivering another 223 horsepower. It can go from a front-wheel drive vehicle to a rear-wheel drive one, and even an all-wheel drive setup. In full electric mode, the BMW i8 can travel up to 20 miles.
