Nürburgring (DE), 16th August 2013. Friday saw the BMW DTM drivers in competition for the first time at the Nürburgring (DE): ahead of the seventh race of the year, Bruno Spengler (CA), Dirk Werner (DE), Augusto Farfus (BR), Joey Hand (US), Martin Tomczyk (DE), Andy Priaulx (GB), Marco Wittmann (DE) and Timo Glock (DE) visited DTM fans at the nearby campsite, where they went up against the clock in a race to erect a two-man tent from the BMW Motorsport collection.

The BMW drivers went head-to-head in teams of two, cheered on by the many fans at the campsite in Müllenbach (DE). The fun competition proved great entertainment for all involved – particularly the campers, who took the opportunity to get closer than ever to their idols and even have a friendly chat. Before leaving, the drivers signed autographs and presented four lucky fans with the BMW Motorsport tents as a special memento.

“It is always great to get so close to our fans. Particularly here at the Nürburgring, where we always receive such fantastic support,” said Spengler. “It was great fun erecting the tents – especially with the support of the fans. I have never known it be so easy to put up a tent. The BMW Motorsport tent was ready within two minutes. The atmosphere reminded me of the early days in my career. When I started in karting, my family and me used to camp during the race weekends.”

Tomczyk also enjoyed himself. “I love the Nürburgring and everything that comes with it. The fans here are particularly enthusiastic, so it only seems right that we should give them something back through antics like this,” said the 2011 DTM champion. “The BMW Motorsport tents might not be quite as spacious as the motorhome I travel to the circuits in, but they are incredibly quick and easy to erect.”
