BMW M2 Track Day Results & Review by Active Autowerke

A few weeks ago, Active Autowerke hit the track with a new BMW M2 in stock condition. The purpose of the test was to see how well the handling of the car is. They were also in it to determine the lap time that this beast can clock in on the track. Enjoy this footage and check out the results below.

Before the BMW M2 did take on the Sebring International Raceway for this footage above, the expectations were already high due to so many glowing reviews of the car. Everybody seemed to like it and that sometimes is too good to be true. It was expected to have great results in standard form and it did deliver.

The setup of the car used here was pretty basic. The only variable they changed was tire pressure. It was set at around 35-37psi hot, which required a cold temperature of ~25psi. When they first went out with 30psi cold, we ended up with pressures over 45psi after a few hot laps. The course was closed and the commander was not a professional driver, though exposed to high performance driving for at least a decade.

After just a few laps, the driver experienced an extreme amount of driving pleasure that he was “literally laughing out loud in [his] helmet.” It was unbelievably good in stock form. He compares it to a point and shoot camera where you can never go wrong. Noteworthy is how well the M2 handled the under-to-over transition. It was graceful and powerful. Albeit too smart at times.

If there was any weakness, it would be the stock brakes which needed to be replaced after four (7) lap sessions. There’s also the DSC, which the driver here felt was pretty useless in controlling the car. Fortunately, the super easy handling of the car makes up for that.
