The most awaited debut of the all-new BMW 2 Series Coupe is just around the corner. Alongside that is the official launch of its M version, the upcoming BMW M2. We have heard so much about it from our inside sources, and we are anticipating seeing and experience it firsthand. Each day comes with several updates from multiple sources. But today, Autocar leaves fascinating remarks on the subject based on one of their sources.
Engine
Continuing the legacy established by the first-generation vehicles, the new BMW M2 will arrive with enhanced engine power. Under the bonnet is a detuned version of the S58 3-liter straight-six engine, which can be found in many BMW models. This powertrain only indicates that the new model will deliver more power compared to its rivals.
If this news happens to be true, we will expect the upcoming BMW M2 to be available in two options. It contrasts with the previous M2, which has only one variant before being replaced by the Competition model after a facelift. Another question would be raised for sure, whether the Competition model will be an all-wheel-drive or not. However, the M2 will be built to be RWD, according to the source. Meaning, having the 7-speed DCT gearbox will be kept alive, but without 100 percent assurance.
Overall, the next BMW M2 is expected to be a great car. “More powerful, with greater torque, but sharper, too. It’s still puristic, a driver’s car, but with a broader spread of characteristics, a greater divide between comfort and sport, than what we’ve seen up to now,†according to a source at Autocar. That’s a piece of pretty good news. In December 2022, the upcoming BMW M2 will go into production, so we still have to wait a couple of months before we actually see it.
