Andre de Vries had the opportunity to take a lap with a Bmw 1M Coupe on the Nurburgring. But his day got even better because he was racing everybody’s dream car on the track: the BMW CSL. The BMW M3 CSL’s official lap time is 7:50 and for the BMW 1 Series M Coupe it is 8:15. Here is what Andre had to say about the whole experience:

The car was awesome and no problems whatsoever. BTG lap time was 8.15 with traffic and i also needed to back off throttle for an accident in the last part. Without traffic and the accident under 8 min BTG is possible. I am following a CSL. Which is a nurburgring track day car. CSL has a cage, big brakes, lightweight exhaust and race seats en runs on pilotsport cup tires. The 1M coupe was completely off factory. I was amazed how well this 1M coupe runs on the Nurburgring.

The guy in the CSL has done lots of laps more then 1000 but is no racing driver. I have done about only 80 laps in total or so. But i am racing driver and adapt very fast to new tracks. If i had more laps under my belt i could go easy under 8 minutes BTG. I really doubt the 7.50 CSL ring time the 1M is pretty close already there no 25 sec difference. Mount some pilot sport cups on the 1M and there is not much in it.

I was driving in M mode and DSC off. Everything else was off factory.

The seats don t give enough support on track and you still sitting to high in car. On long journey s to the ring the seats are perfect. So it s all compromise. And you can swap seats for race shells seats easily if you wish.
