The BMW Group recently revealed its plans to make an all-electric version of the MINI JCW GP. There were no specs provided, and no official announcements have been made yet, but it’s coming. We know that for sure. Especially now that BMW slyly revealed some early sketches of the MINI Electric GP in their new video.
BMW released a short video about their modern language for cars like the iX electric SUV. One particular scene caught the attention of BMW fans – where the filmmakers suggest that BMW keeps hiding things from them. From then on, the designer in the video makes a fake attempt to hide he sketches on his desk. It even got a close up shot, an action that BMW makes it seem like an accident. Clearly, we see that it’s the MINI Electric GP. It has the same aerodynamics as the GP, only partnered with bright yellow accents and aerodynamic wheels from the MINI Cooper SE.
Interestingly, the MINI Electric GP looks like it has the same aero as the GP; although, we know for a fact that its wings, splitters, and spoilers will gradually decrease the all-electric range. This downforce will eventually build an aerodynamic drag, reducing the car’s total range. Unless the GP gets a different battery pack from the MINI Cooper SE, we shouldn’t expect much range from it, to begin with.
However, the GP doesn’t necessarily need a ton of range, as it is designed to provide short sprints of a fun electric driving.
At the same time, it should look cool, too. While the MINI JCW GP appears to be a deeply flawed car, it actually looks fantastic. It already has a great starting point. Now add with some cool EV touches, aerodynamic wheels, and a few yellow accents – the MINI Electric GP should be an amazing-looking car.
