[Video] Guide on BMW’s Remote Engine Start

Many modern BMW’s are now fitted with Remote Engine Start equipment. During the warm summer days and frigid cold winters, this is a great feature. This enables you to start the engine either by cooling it with air conditioning. Also, turning on the heat from inside your home or work and pre-conditioning the interior.

To do this the BMW iDrive 7.0 infotainment system must be activated first:

  1. From the home screen, press the ‘CAR’ menu on the left-hand side.
  2. Select ‘Settings’
  3. Scroll to the right and choose ‘Climate Control.’
  4. Select ‘Preconditioning/Ventilation’
  5. Select ‘Remote Engine Start’
  6. Check the box for ‘Starting Engine for Clim. Control’
  7. Select ‘OK’ if you agree to the disclaimer

Now that you have activated Remote Engine Start, you can use the BMW’s Connected app by pressing ‘Climatize Now to pre-condition your vehicle. If the start were a success, you would get a notification. To start the engine as well, you can also use your BMW keyfob. Just press the Roundel lock key 3 times if you are in the range of your vehicle, and your engine will startup.

However the engine won’t run indefinitely. After a short time, it will time-out and switch off to conserve fuel and the environment.
