[Video] Overview of the BMW iX electric SUV

The first video of the BMW iX electric SUV is here. A new technical architecture under the codename 120 supports the new BMWiX. It is both scalable and flexible and is expected to find its way into many future BMW I and the core BMW brand.

To put in many developments in streamlined aerodynamics, lightweight construction, and the extensive use of natural and recycled materials, the latest BMW iX relies on the fundamental D+ACES (Design, Autonomous Driving, Networking, Electrification, and Services) strategy, emphasizing sustainability.

The current BMW eDrive architecture of the fifth generation supports the iX flagship. Same with the new iX3 and the upcoming i4. The two electric engines, the control electronics, the charging technology, and the high-voltage battery, are part of the architecture.

The transmission powers the BMW eDrive sustainably. The unit’s maximum performance exceeds 370 kW / 500 PS (490hp). In less than 5.0 seconds, the acceleration can be achieved.

Energy

The 100 kWh gross battery energy content is sufficient to guarantee a total range exceeding 600 kilometers in the sense of a low combined consumption figure of 21 kWh / 100 kilometer, measured according to the WLTP period, according to preliminary measurements. The new BMW iX accomplished more than 300 miles in the EPA FTP-75 range test.

A new design language also brings the new flagship of the BMW I sub-brand. The iX’s total external dimensions are similar to those of the X5. While the height is comparable to that of the X6. The large-diameter aerodynamic wheels are often reminiscent of the luxury SAV high-end X7.

The designers of the BMW iX concentrated on providing the driver and passengers on board the electric SAV with an outstanding experience. The cabin of the iX is large enough to house five occupants with proper BMW X model proportions. Even due to the absence of the central drive tunnel. The newly built seats feature integrated headrests. To create a feel-good atmosphere, the BMW tailored the BMW iX’s panoramic glass roof with a more generous surface.
