[VIDEO] Unveiling the 2023 BMW M2 Review and Epic Drag Race

As the embargo lifts, expect a flood of written and video reviews for the BMW M2. Of course, we had to add a few of our own since we couldn’t allow everyone else to have all the fun. You can watch the BMW M2 confront the BMW M2 in this new video. You also observe a drag race between the two to determine which version is faster.

You undoubtedly already know the BMW M2’s specifications, but just in case, let me recap them for you. A 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, inline-six “S58” engine with 453 horsepower (460 PS) and 406 lb-ft of torque powers the M2. Despite the new M2 being a few hundred pounds heavier, it boasts more power than the previous M2 CS. The engine pairs with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Both of which solely drive the rear wheels.

Horatiu got to test-drive the automatic and manual BMW M2 on public roads. This was done in the first video for extended lengths of time to determine which was superior. The manual is undoubtedly the better option for enthusiasts. It’s because it is more interesting, encourages greater driver involvement, and will eventually be worth more money. The manual M2 is, without a doubt, a future classic. But, the true focus of the test was on how well the M2 would perform when paired with a conventional ZF eight-speed torque converter auto. Amazingly, it’s excellent, compelling even the most ardent purists to reconsider which is superior.

Less subjective is the second video. We get to watch two automatic BMW M2 models compete against one another in a drag race to see which is fastest. Regrettably, there was no test manual available. But the basic notion still holds true. Since automatic cars can shift far faster than manual cars, they have been faster for most of this century.

So, the automatic transmission is already in the next gear. It transmits power to the road while the driver still messes with a third pedal and a gear lever. Although the difference in power production is only by a second, it significantly impacts speed. Moreover, the automatic car has a launch control, whereas the driver’s left foot controls the launch in the manual car.
