[Video] A Review of the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe After a Test Drive

For a while, I had an opportunity to enjoy the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe on the track for a whole week. I’d also tried M8 Competition Coupe, but it was just on track for a handful of laps. Even with just a short time of using it, its speed, impressive agility, and a kind of bulldog feel surprised me the most. It looked like the car knew that hooning a two-ton-plus GT car on the road was a little naughty, which gave it some character even more. The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe’s key for a week? Just imagine my enthusiasm!

The enthusiasm was quickly greeted with some completely ballistic speed when I reached the road back home. The M8 competition is insanely fast in any shape. It really doesn’t matter how fast you ‘re going. You just dig your foot, and it pushes you back to your position, magnifies your focus, and drops you on the horizon like a trebuchet. It was almost risky, because unless you’re a fighter pilot, there’s no way to predict that kind of acceleration.

Yet after you do the parlor trick a couple of times and please your buddies, there’s really nothing more left. Yes, it’s comfortable, calm, and looks fantastic. But there’s not much more enthusiasm after the beast ‘s acceleration. The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe, given its sporty look and the word “Competition” in its label, is just another huge, squishy, continent-crossing GT vehicle. There is nothing wrong with that. As a matter of fact, the GT cars are on the list of my favorites. It is just that it’s now what I have expected. Not with its price level and not after looking at it.

If you are a speed enthusiast, the M8 might bore you. The limit and comfort are so high unless you do the license-losing stuff on the road, it’s completely boring. On the road, the M8 Coupe was shockingly fine. But who’s bringing the $167,000 four-door M8 Gran Coupe to the road? I ‘d say zero-percent of consumers are going to do that.
