BMW’s Skytop Concept, first unveiled at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza on the picturesque shores of Lake Como, has captivated automotive enthusiasts worldwide. Transitioning from concept to production in a mere 15 months, this ultra-rare model is set to be a collector’s dream. Only 50 units will ever be produced, making it a pinnacle of exclusivity in BMW’s lineup. Despite its allure, the BMW Skytop is already sold out, leaving admirers to marvel from afar.
BMW’s dedication to preserving the concept’s vision is evident in the production model’s design, which closely mirrors the original. Tobias Mühlbauer, the product manager, has highlighted the seamless transition, describing it as “almost exactly” faithful to the concept. During its development, BMW enhanced the design while maintaining its homage to the Z8 and 503, resulting in a harmonious blend of vintage inspiration and modern luxury. Customisation options, including bespoke headlights and tailored upholstery, elevate the Skytop to a new level of personalised luxury.
Under the hood, the Skytop boasts formidable power, courtesy of a 4.4-litre engine producing 617 horsepower—the same performance as BMW’s M8 Competition. Paired with xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the Skytop rockets from 0 to 62 mph in a breathtaking 3.3 seconds. Although BMW has yet to announce delivery timelines, its performance and design firmly place it in a league of its own.
