BMW to Change Engines in 2, 3, and 4 Series

A change is coming to the U.S. BMW lineup – the cars will receive new engines. The new three-, four-, and six-cylinder engines will be based on the modular engine technology, and they will remain as powerful, but be more fuel efficient than the engines currently used.

The new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is called B48, and it will replace the current N20 in the new 30i models. The single-turbo six’s name is B58, and the 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine will be used on the 40i cars instead of the old N55. B48 will provide the cars with 248 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque while the B50 will provide the cars it’s used on with 335 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Instead of 228i, 230i will be used, and the M240i will replace the M235i. The 335 HP B58 engine will be used both on the 340i Gran Turismo and 340i Sedan, while the B48 and 330i will replace the 328i models.
