BMW Leipzig’s TEK Team Wins Prestigious Lean Production Award

BMW Group Plant Leipzig’s Exterior Components (TEK) division has been honoured with the Automotive Lean Production Award, recognising its exceptional progress in transforming production processes. The team, comprising 450 employees, produces over a million exterior parts annually, such as bumpers and spoilers, for various BMW plants.

The jury praised TEK’s adherence to its 2028 vision, which focuses on transitioning to large-scale just-in-sequence production. This achievement was attributed to a blend of lean principles and innovative digital strategies, significantly enhancing efficiency and innovation.

Christoph Theiselmann, head of TEK, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, highlighting it as a crucial milestone in their ongoing transformation. The award underscores the importance of digital tools, from data analytics to virtual factory planning, in driving their success.

This recognition marks a significant achievement for TEK and reinforces BMW’s commitment to pioneering advanced manufacturing techniques. The focus on continuous improvement and the integration of cutting-edge technology will serve as a benchmark for future projects across the BMW Group’s global network. In November 2024, the official award ceremony will occur at Palmela, Portugal.
