BMW M engines bask to being admired for years. And a handful of them naturally outshines the rest, like the BMW S85 5-liter V10 engine. This engine has proven itself the real gem of BMW M engines. In this video, the S85 V10 engine powers a BMW E46 drift car to perfection.
No questions asked, the BMW S85 5-liter V10 engine got to be one of the best M engines today. Made during BMW’s legacy in Formula 1, it verifies what naturally aspirated mills can accomplish. However, like a coin with two heads, it has some significant downsides to consider.
Featuring the drift car of Lorenzo Fattori, an Italian pilot, the video boasts of the S85 V10 engine. And it showed surprising performance. As a mill, the S85 can perform well but has its limits in a drift car. It has an excellent rev limit, and it stacks on the RPMs like what other engines can do. Nevertheless, we know that the V10s are not the reliable engine to have for a drift car. Most BMW drift cars pack LS V8 mills, not precisely the V10. Therefore, this video of the S85 V10 in a drift car looks very interesting.
The S85 V10 engine powers a BMW E46 drift car in this video. This combination included the help of a donor car, the BMW M6. Also, the vehicle does not have a stocked S85. Instead, they tuned the engine to produce 550 HP through an ECU map and tweaked exhaust. The car also has an impressive racing clutch and a BC Racing coil-over suspension. It also features oversized brakes and many other upgrades.
