328i Juiced

Hi bros,

Warning : For the review of the juicebox, just scroll to the end...

I'm driving the 328i Sports Edition with M-sports suspension. Just got my car for 2 weeks...

As I used to drive the Honda SiR and then the Accord Euro R, I'm quite into speed and acceleration, and of cos modding the car... And since the 335 is quite a bit more expensive than the 328i, I chose the 328i...

Initial ride quality of the 328i is that the car is very responsive for a turbo car... It felt as linear as my previous NA cars... Perhaps the beauty of the twin scroll... However after driving it for a while, it felt as if the car's top end needed some encouragement or that the transmission felt sluggish or flat around 5 - 7000 rpm...

So I decided that I need to install a piggy back, and decided to go with the Juicebox because of it's fame and popularity...

Review

Installed it yesterday, and played with the car for a day...

Installation was pretty quick... Just 3 or 4 connectors, absolutely no splicing of the wires. Looks pretty easy to uninstall should there be a need.

After taking the car out for a test drive, the low end torque definitely improved with the initial move off much faster.

However for the top end wise, the car felt sluggish yet again... Not sure if it's a problem with the transmission or traction control (tyres losing traction so the TC is compensating)

Will try the car a few more days and try to understand the issue with the top end... Probably will be heading down to the installers to try play with the settings...

The transmission or TC should be fine unless u see lotsa slip via ur dashboard. The high end that u mentioned - at what speed? A reflash stage 1 tune makes the car livelier but frankly, a dp change makes the best combo. Did u try the higher speed prior to tuning btw?

I saw from youtube on a 328i acceleration, beyond 180km/h the speed is crawling towards south, typical of a 2.0T setup. That would be different if the exhaust system is upgraded along with a turbo, but the latter is best avoided unless u hate ur warranty.

Re: 328i Juiced

Congrats on the 328. I am not sure if you managed to run in the car sufficiently with just 2 weeks of ownership. There are some who could by driving for nights along expressways to clock the run in mileage. A 2.0T will naturally run out of breath at high end, but by then it wld already have reached illegal speed. So be content bah.

What was the driving mode you engaged when giving the review?

Best is to use comfort mode to ascertain the gains, sports wise is responsive enuff and hard to tell much tho there will be some diff tho

Yes. The N20 engine is already quite an impressive engine with the small displacement. But then there's a reason why they still make the 335. If the 328 can really perform identically 100% with a quick mod, then the extra 2 cylinders in the 335 is just for show, sound and extra weight? (Of course to the average driver, yes, they might not be able to tell the difference, hence there is the 320)

Did not whack the car that long... Still around 90 - 100 degs

Re: 328i Juiced

The tests were done mainly in sports mode...

The car is definitely more spirited now, wanting to move forward more at every depression of the gas pedal in sports mode...

The boost is set to 4 PSI above the factory setting, which makes it sitting somewhere around 0.9bar of boost (max)...

However the car still weird at full throttle, anywhere around 3500 - 6000 rpm. Not sure if it was the case already before the mod...

It feels like some flat spot, as if the car is increasing its rate of acceleration... My fren say it could be the exhaust and DP too small causing back pressure, but running on stock turbo and just 0.9bar shouldn't cause this... Neither should the stock intake affect...

Will go back to the shop when I've some time to diagnose the issue...

Anyways, here are some photos of the installation:

328i modded can reach figures of a stock 335i...
335i modded can look at 350 - 380bhp and 450 - 500tq easily...

If just comparing 0 - 100, it's not that significant (0.5 sec), but above that, the extra 2 cylinders makes the whole difference (0 - 180 already seeing up to 2 - 3 secs of diff)
