PML is accepting "advance" bookings for the 335 hardtop

15K upfront - refundable - if you do not agree to the car's pricing when it is announced later.....delivery first quarter 07

best of both worlds - fresh air cum power of the 335 coupe - but the hardtop is 200kgs heavier than the coupe..... question is - how much of this affect the handling ?????

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

200KGs is pretty significant mi thinks...
also dependent on where all that weight is too

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

exactly !!

good to be the first to own this but cannot find any reviews anywhere.....

the car in metallic bronze is so good looking

Wah.... this sounds like a quick act by PML before the PIs act on this car. I dont understand what is meant by refundable if car price not agreeable later.

Anyway 200kg , more wouldnt that make it as heavy as the 5 series?

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

PML do not have the pricing for the car yet

they will accept the booking now for a deposit of 15K and you can spec it out to whatever you want...19inch rims/etc/etc and in the colour of your choice

when the pricing is confirmed and if you do not like the price quoted - you can cancel the booking and PML will refund you the deposit

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

what is the advantage of booking so early? unless the first batch is going to be fully booked. i doubt so

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

wah..... 200kg more?!!!

this would mean 0-100 would increase from 5.5s to maybe 6.0s... or more!!

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Tho it's heavy but when u hv a hardtop, that means rigidity is not adversely compromised vs the softtop.

Pick up will definitely be slower, cornering will be a little boaty feeling but it will still handle better than the 5-er if the kerb weight is the same coz afterall, the 3-er is a smaller car.

Somebody is gonna come up with fixed CF Top at some point hahaha..
SLK has done it, S2000 has done it....

It's a life style car after all and it's BMW...how bad can the handling be?

Comparing the stats on both the coupe and coupe/cabrio brochures, the extra 200kg only increases the 0-100km/h timing by 0.3 sec!

So on paper... 5.5 sec (coupe) vs 5.8 sec (coupe/cabrio).

I think its because of the high torque and unique low-rpm delivery of this new bimmer turbo engine, overcomes the potential extra weight penalty. :)

Now IS the 1st quarter 07 what.....or you mean 08? If so..means book a car 1 whole year in advance? Doesnt make sense to me :)

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Iin this month bmw car magazine, the 335i and 335d coupe comes up top compared to the other BMW lineups.

the topless 335 be it the 'i' or 'd' will perform similarily well, it should not be too fair off in terms of performance and drive.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

was quoted a delivery time of March/early April 07

price should be about 30K more than the coupe ( 263K ) based on current PML's pricing

I was recently quoted 262k for a new 630i coupe! This 335i is 1k more!LOL .... optimistic PML pricing as usual!. Do they have a non-turbo 325/330 cab arriving at same time?

$263 for this car? err hmm....

Does anyone know in the USA / europe how much is the extra $$ this car commands over the coupe brother?

PML thinks they re selling diamonds :screwedu:

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

I know it's a CC but 200kg more?? Considering that the Bentley GTC weighs just over 100kg more than its coupe sibling..

They can promote it as "better handling, zero scuttle shake... etc" but I'm willing to bet that all things being equal, if there's a conventional E92 'vert, it will outperform the bloated E92 CC.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

The Bently GTC is a soft top, hence the 100kg difference... but you're right too, an extra 200 kg for the folding hard top and motors is quite alot. Maybe the added weight includes heavy duty reinforcement to the chassis too?

Anyways, i've owned a folding hardtop cabrio before and the beauty of a folding hardtop is not only its convenience, but when the hard top is down, you can actually feel the car's handling and stability improve, 'cos a fair amount of weight is now transferred into the boot and below shoulder level, which brings the car's overall center of gravity lower. :)

Hopefully, this new bimmer coupe/cabrio chassis is as good as the coupe's, it should be a great car to own and be seen in. :)

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Yar, I know that the GTC has a conventional canvas-top, but was pointing out if the top tier of luxury marques have achieved almost coupe-like handling (and absence of non-scuttle shake) in their ragtops, BMW shd aspire to do the same as well.

But of course, there's more security in driving (or when parked) in a CC vs. a ragtop. :)
