730LI or 740LI?

Hi all F01/02 gurus,

Getting bored of my F10. Thinking of swopping for a 7series, but a pre-owned one.

Been looking around recently after the MAS curbs to see if there are any good value buys.

Its between a 4 years 740LI or a 3+ years old 730LI that caught my eye.

Used BMW 740Li Car for Sale in Singapore, Auto Zoom Enterprise - sgCarMart

Used BMW 730Li Car for Sale in Singapore, Wearnes Automotive Pte Ltd - sgCarMart

How much trouble can the twin turbo give me, if the car is has a latent issue with the turbo?

Appreciate any feedback.

I think the 740 is a good buy. more power. turbo lag? not when it picks up, you won't find it a bother =) If not, in 2 months time, you will be asking for power mods... =)

Re: 730LI or 740LI?

my Z4 had the same N54 engine without issue except this one time the car stalled. I was actually in disbelief. That said, believe the HPFP problems more prevalent in the US market, maybe due to their different fuel grade/quality.

Re: 730LI or 740LI?

What's your present F10's engine? I chose the F02 730Li for the N52 and I don't regret it one bit. Recently, my F13 was in the workshop for 2 weeks (don't ask) and I went back to driving the N52 powered F02 - and honestly, I fell in love all over again with its creamy smoothness and straight as an arrow linear, lag free acceleration.... smoother than a strawberry milkshake :)

However, if you are already on an N52 plant, it may not be a bad idea to try out the Twin Turbo N54 rocket :)

Mine is the N52 engine and i agree with you its creamy smooth. Today, driving along the AYE, it felt great.

Only worry for the 730Li is that could it be underpowered to move that mass?

Test drove both the cars i indicated and cant decide. 1 from larger dealer and i from smaller one..

Re: 730LI or 740LI?

The N52 730Li is good enough, doesn't feel that it lacks urgency at normal day to day driving. It's a supreme cruiser, but you might feel a little underwhelmed when the unker taxi chiets you in his Sonata at the traffic lights though hehehehe.....

Re: 730LI or 740LI?

From the Ads you posted on both cars, the 740 definitely has a nicer color combi. And that sunroof will make the cabin brighter and seem even more roomy. oh yes and the 740 also has the twin rectangular exhaust which gives the car better symmetry from the rear and much hotter IMHO. Since both are 3 liter with same road tax, insurance etc. u should get the rocket!
i also see that the camera switch (besides the park distance control) is also missing on the 730...probably only comes with the 740.

Agree! And it's cheaper too!

Ya, busy thinking prices will fall more and no one interested in buying..

Apparently not..

Re: 730LI or 740LI?

not sure if the price of the used car will drop further:( should wait or not **headache
btw bro qus what make u choose 740Li instead of 740i, when i get my e65 also had difficult in deciding whether on LI or not but end up getting the i only as feel the extra long body had difficult in parking/move in small lot as well as back passager had problem opening the door fully if the lot is very small

Go test drive the 740 and your fate will be sealed
a cruiser needs to be cruised

Hmm, never considered that many factors. I thought if i wanted a big car, might as well go get a long one... But i am expecting some of the carparks, i might have to skip and maybe do less parallel parking...

Sis had an Jag XJL and drove it on several occasions. Some carparks you really can't go to unless you like multiple forward backward forward backward to avoid curb rash. Its really a pain too when 1/4 of the car sticks out and your wheels are already touching the concrete stop. Stressful driving! No like.

Re: 730LI or 740LI?

In the end, settled on a 730Li. Going to take it for a long cruise.
