Active steering fails

My dad bought a new 630i less than a month ago. On Sat(19/7) active steering failed. The dashboard came up with the warning and there's a sound underneath the driver's seat whenever the steering wheel is turned.. Sent in for emergency repair and was told something was faulty with the computer. Received back the car same day. Thereafter, although there's no warning, however the sound came back again as the steering wheel was turned.... Car was towed away again on Sun. As of today haven receive the car back yet. Any bros experience the same problem? Can get replacement car? Frustrated.:furious:

Re: Active steering fails

Had this problem a few times already. Usually, i turn the steering a few times left and right then restart the engine and the warning automatically disappears.

Sometimes, i just leave it overnight and the next day, i start the car and its just returns to normal.

What the SA at PML says, is it’s usually an alignment lens that is sometimes dirty. In severe cases this would need to be changed.

In your case, it’s a new car so just throw it back at PML.

Any strange noises coming from below the driver seat when u turn? My dad just got the car back yesterday.

None that i can remember. The only thing was that there was a slower response to steering ( meaning had to turn more than usual) and a slightly heavier feel.

Check with PML if this is a lens problem. Get them to change under warranty, if not will be about 1.5k.
