Advise need on brake noise and brake kit

Hi,

Just upgrade to 20" Vertini Monaco rims last weekend for my F10 523

encounter screeching sound from brakes especially when brakes cold.

I was told that this is normal from rim shop due the large rim.
Was told that the sound is coming from front brake thus need to change bigger brakes kit.
Is this true?

I was told that the bigger brake Kit can only be fitted to front wheels. As rear wheel got
sensors so cannot upgrade the brake kit only can change disc and brake pad. Any advise?

Yes it's true & if my memory doesn't fail me, u may find more details with a search as it has been discussed before bro.

The shop can really tell stories.....

Change wheels => noise => install BBK to rectify.....

Claim warranty on the rims! In fact, I'll claim damages on them for damaging the brakes and causing the screeching sound. Need a sart laMWyer with sart sart letterhead. I never say brobbles!

after you change BBK and with the 20" wheels. the weight of the car will increase, you will need to tune or add a piggy back to your ecu. should start budgeting for such, after that, exhaust, cause with all the power, you need to be able to "release" fast.

lolx. Im just bullshitting... just like the person whom sold you the wheels.

The workshop said you need to change to BBK to get rid of the noise, or did the workshop just say you can or may change to BBK to get rid of the noise?

First one is bullshit and second one is a recommendation, though it's a bit of hard selling if it's the exact wordings being used.

Re: Advise need on brake noise and brake kit

i think there is a logic to it why many upsize their rim and suddenly got this screeching noise
either the rim is poorly made or not made to suit the make/model of the car
and also has it been determined that the screeching noise is definitely from the brake or wheel ?

Which shop is this? Change rim then change to bbk! Really nonsense! Go back to Pml to rectify, foc! I have done mine, now on 22", no more squeeky noise after clearing the dust and polished the pad. Don't get dupe!

Workshop told me as the rim is now bigger, I will heard screeching sound especially when brakes are cold. Told me that bigger brakes will be able to solve the problem.

Thank you for your advise.

The shop is one of the sponsor listed here in the tyre & rim section, they sound very friendly;

My car is a used PI so cannot send to PML.

Sell car!

Re: Advise need on brake noise and brake kit

The other effect of a larger rim is larger moment of inertia. At low speeds, the brakes have to work marginally harder to slow the wheels down. Does the squeaking happen all the time or only at very specific speeds/pedal pressures? Perhaps you were just driving faster with the new sporty wheels and glazed the pads or something like that.

Yet another effect is the hub-rotor-wheel interface itself. The squeaking happens because the pads vibrate against the rotors, but the rotors are connected to the hub and the hub is connected to the wheel. As the mass distribution changes, so does the fundamental resonant frequency. Perhaps you just hit the sweet spot with the bigger rims.
