Re: Alpine Cda W560eg
Although I'm not a fan of Kenwood, the unit looks good... How much is it? Its a touchscreen and can hook to external Kenwood 5.1 DSP, but I'm not sure it this DSP gives good resolution time alignment and 31 band EQ (which to me in indispensable). I like the function of L/R reverse flip image for reverse cam - it may come in handy.
The Alpine 310 unit can go down to 2.1k or less. Its a full 7" screen compared to 6.5" and it can hook up and control directly the 701 DSP unit meaning you can tune yr 31 band EQ from the screen.
Effectively, if you get the Kenwood just because its built in screen, you still need an open 2 DIN space to mount anyway. Why not just just mount the Alpine unit in the lower slot of that 2 DIN space, and when the screen is stowed away, you can use the upper DIN slot for either storage, or other stuff...
Yes, right now my Alpine 310 is mounted in the original HU location, and screen blocks a/c vents when its open. Doesn't bother me that much, but its a good idea to shift the whole HU to a lower slot. I have seen pics of this done before overseas, but not sure of the work involved.
One thing... If you want a video screen in your dash, it would be much nicer to have it almost eye level. (although watching movie on the move is illegal for driver!). I'm saying this because I have a rear view cam mounted into my rear number plate, and when I drive in dark places I use my DVD screen as a rear view camera. A good CCD cam actually picks out ALL objects in almost total darkness, and I can spot all the motorbikes/lorries that drive w/o headlights! For fun during daytime, I also use it as a full time rear view mirror, so you can imagine that its nice to have the screen higher up at the a/c vent level so I don't really take my eyes off the road that much.
